11 MLD water supply project by March 2011:Minister

ITANAGAR, Jan 8: PHE and WS Minister Chowna Mein today inspected the on-going project for augmentation of water supply for Itanagar township (Phase II) for 11 MLD sanctioned under JNNURM and assured to complete the project by March, 2011.

The minister discussed in details with the accompanying departmental engineers on various issues like cost escalation of construction materials, Ductile Iron pipes and adequate right way for laying DI pipes, release of pending fund by state and central governments and also those problems that might cause delay in timely completion of the project and their solutions.

The minister expressed satisfaction over the steady progress and quality of the project work. Water problem in Itanagar township would be solved to a great extent after the completion of the project, he hoped.

The minister was accompanied by departmental engineers and the contractors assigned for the work, according to an official release.

Education sector in right track: Siram

AALO, Jan 8: The state Government has given top priority on education and the educational scenario in state is progressing in the right direction, said Education Minister Bosiram Siram yesterday.

Exhorting the teaching community to work hard and perform their noble duty of moulding the future of the students in right direction with dedication and sincerity, the minister said ‘ordinary teacher reads, good teacher explains, very good teacher demonstrates and excellent teacher inspires the students. The present system of education which is teachers’ centric would be made students’ centric, he said after inaugurating the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Govt. Secondary School, Liromoba yesterday.

Education is the greatest and permanent investment in society, Siram said and expressed his optimism that the teaching fraternity of the Govt Secondary School, Liromoba would set an example and make the school an excellent institute of learning for producing responsible citizens of the future.

He announced that Govt. Secondary School, Liromoba and Yomcha have been approved in principle for up-gradation. NIT would be functional from July 2010 with 30 seats each in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical degree, he added.

Jarbom Gamlin, Minister Power (Elect), Tourism etc while responding the public memorandum assured to look into the grievances on phase-wise.

Considering the major problems of the school, teachers’ quarter, boys’ and girls’ Hostel, class room etc have been sanctioned under SPA, Gamlin said and cautioned, fund should be judiciously utilized. He appealed the teachers to inculcate a sense of discipline in students. Students should also respect the teachers, he added.

Gamlin also inaugurated a RCC gallery with CGI sheet roofing at General Ground, Liromoba in presence of the Education Minister.

The public memorandum included up-gradation of Govt. Secondary School, Liromoba, fund for flood control at the back side of the school, fencing, auditorium and prayer Hall. DIPRO

Steps taken to prevent road accidents

ITANAGAR, Jan 8: Taking serious note on the ever-increasing accidents particularly in the state capital, the state police department is initiating various road safety measures.

DIGP (Traffic) Robin Hibu in a release informed that the state police department is introducing road and traffic enforcement team, awareness campaign team along with introduction of more manpower for traffic management in the capital city during the one day traffic awareness camp on January 10 at VK Hall RKM, Itanagar.

Altogether, 547 Sumo, Trekker, Auto, Truck and Bus drivers of the twin capital city will be given training on safe driving during the awareness camp.

He further highlighting previous years traffic related accidents report said that as per the statistics reports 1,14,759 persons died and 6,20,41 persons seriously injures in road accidents in the year 2009 alone.

However, with limited manpower, the department is also trying to enforce traffic rules against the traffic violators on road and also create awareness among the drivers to prevent road accident. The department has also purchased two cranes for strict traffic management on roads and ensure unobstructed movement of traffic, he added.

Future of Arunachal depends on hydro power, says Ering

ITANAGAR, Jan 8: The future of Arunachal depends on hydro power only, said Lok Sabha MP Ninnong Ering while interacting with the Jeru and Pongging villagers of Upper Siang district on Jan 7 and 8.

Responding to the query of the local people regarding construction of dam, Ering during his two-day visit to the villages clarified that the decision to construct the dam will depend on the outcome of the survey and investigation. People should know the advantage and disadvantage of dam construction; he said and sought their cooperation in developmental works.

While visiting the bat cave (Ponrung) of Pongging village he appealed all to preserve culture and heritage. Ponrung will be tourist hot spot with proper tourist infrastructure, he said and exhorted the public not to hunt bat henceforth.

Responding to the memorandum submitted by the people, Ering sanctioned Rs.2.5 lacs for C C lining for irrigation channel for Dumying WRC field, Jeru and Rs.50,000 for renovation of bridge over Yamne from Jeru village to Jeying,which is the lifeline of the village.

He also sanctioned Rs.1lac for C.C.steps to the bat cave(Ponrung) and Rs.1lac for widening of the approach road to the Pongging village. DIPRO

Sange to produce ‘NE Round Up’

ITANAGAR, Jan 8: Nima Sange, serving presently as Doordarshan stringer for North East News and national hookup, has been selected by the DD to produce ‘Northeast Round up’, a fortnightly cultural and information news magazine.

DDK, New Delhi authorities after review have accepted 13 episodes of 30-minute duration, whose telecast will begin at 7.30 am from January 10 next. The first segment of this episode will begin with a report on the fruit cultivation in Meghalaya.

Sange is also empaneled as producer for DDK Itanagar and programme production center (PPC) NE DD, Guwahati for five years till 2013.

Construct 4-lane road in Capital soon

ITANAGAR, Jan 8: Expressing concern over the ever increasing vehicles in the narrow roads of the Capital Complex which resulted in traffic jam and accidents, Arunachal Pradesh Development Welfare Association (APDWA) has appealed the Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu to take immediate step for the construction of the proposed four-lane road in the state Capital.

In a memorandum to Chief Minister, the APDWA further demanded that Arunachalee unemployed youths should get employment opportunities in the deputy residential commissioner (DRC) offices, guest houses, Arunachal Bhawan situated in various parts of the country.

The association further demanded that the DD Itanagar should cover the whole of Arunachal Pradesh instead of telecasting its services in Capital only.

Proposed NIT sought in Capital

ITANAGAR, Jan 8: Welcoming the proposed NIT in Arunachal Pradesh, the All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) has demanded the state government to set up such an important institute of repute within Capital area for the convenient of all.

While expressing serious concern over survival of the age-old Tani culture and dialects due to ‘cultural invasion’ and nonexistence of script and textual records, ANSU demanded creation of Department of Tani Language and Culture to preserve and promote the long practiced dialects and culture of the Tani group of the state.

Mela brings Army and common people closer

BOMDILA, Jan 8: Under the programme “know Your Army’ a Civil-Military Interaction was organized today at the Buddha Stadium, Bomdila by the ‘Ball of Fire Division’ to enhance the civil and military interface and in order to create awareness regarding the Indian Army.

The essence of the mela was to spread the message -‘Indian Army a partner in Nation building’ and to educate the local youths about the various options in the Army.

Various stalls were set up to highlight the capabilities of the Army and to motivate and educate the local youths. The event was inaugurated by Brig MS Sandhu, Officiating General Officer Commanding, Ball of Fire Division.

A colourful cultural programme including dances and songs with the participation of local school children were organized to mark the occasion. Other highlights of the event was Motor Cycle display by the ‘Shweth Ashwa’ team, which made the spectators spellbound.

The stall on ‘Enrolment into the Indian Army’ drew maximum crowd as the young sought information on avenues for enrolment into the Army. A medical camp was also conducted to provide free medical checkup and medicines.

Locals welcomed this initiative of the army enthusiastically. The civil administration under the able guidance of Deputy Commissioner Swati Sharma, provided unstinted cooperation in the endeavor.

The camp succeeded in its aim of enhancing the bonding between the Army and Civil.

The other Civil Military-interface mela would be held on Jan 9 at Zapkong Stadium Rupa, in the district. DIPRO

Surprise checking

NAHARLAGUN, Jan 8: The inspection committee headed by Capital Complex ADC B Basar conducted a surprise checking of bonded warehouse, beer bar, wine shops, and whole sellers of IMFL/beer at Banderdewa, Karsingsa, and Naharlagun today.

The committee was formed to check unauthorized shifting of business premises, shifting of shop and selling of liquor.

It is worth mentioning here that superintendent tax and excise issued order to all warehouse of IMFL and beer situated outside the gate in Banderdewa to shift their bases inside the gate but so far only two warehouses have shifted inside the gate and rest are yet to follow the orders.

However, after submitting the report to the higher authorities, ADC said all the illegal and unauthorized warehouses, wine shops, business premises will be closed down if their papers are not found in proper state.

ITANAGAR, Jan 8: AAPSU president Takam Tatung and ANSU General Secretary Likha Tabo will attend the 4th general conference-cum-election of All Palin Chambang Yangte Gangte Student’s Union as the chief guest and guest of honour. The conference will be held from Jan 15 to 19 at Govt Secondary School, Chambang.

ARASU calls for intervention of SP and DC

ITANAGAR, Jan 8: All Raga Area Students’ Union (ARASU) expressing dissatisfaction over the investigation process by investigation officer and the department on the Ratan Shanti case appealed the SP and Deputy Commissioner to intervene and initiates immediate steps to solve the case.

Awareness camp

ITANAGAR, Jan 8: Leporiang People Welfare Committee Capital Complex will conduct the first ever socio-cultural and educational awareness camp coinciding with Republic Day celebration at Leporiang from January 24 - 26 next.

Besides holding interaction with local people on various issues like socio-cultural and educational development, the LPWCC has also decided organize traditional indigenous games and sports competition among the villagers and panchayat leaders during the three days programme.

Two coordination committees - central and local - have also been constituted for successful conduct of the campaign.

Arunachalee coach,cricketers to attend cricket camp at NCA

ITANAGAR, Jan 8: Coach Lokam Gurga and players Suhel Hussain and Tana Radh will attend a seven days cricket camp at National Cricket Academy, Bangalore from January 11 to 17 next. Board of Control for Cricket India (BCCI) has selected them from Arunachal Pradesh to attend the camp, Arunachal Cricket Association said in a release.

ITANAGAR: Central Nyokum Committee (CNC) has postponed the proposed foundation stone laying ceremony to construct Tadar Tang Sitting Gallery and handing over of movable and immovable assets of CNC to respective local Nyokum committees of Nirjuli and Nyokum Lapang due to un-avoidable circumstances.
